Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Technology Programs Drug Testing Policy

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs

Central Carolina Technical College and the School of Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Technology students are strictly prohibited from being under the influence of alcohol or any drug/medication that alters behavior or appearance of capability while engaged in any portion of their formal educational experience. Students are subject to drug testing at times when the student’s actions constitute reasonable suspicion. Factors that may indicate reasonable suspicion for drug testing include but are not limited to:

  • Contributing to a laboratory accident.
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Unexplained abnormal or erratic behavior.
  • Observance of drug or alcohol use.
  • Other behavior that gives reasonable suspicion.

Students who display reasonable suspicion will be immediately removed from the education experience and are required to submit to an immediate drug screening. All random toxicology screenings must be completed on the day the student is notified by the School of Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Technology. If the student does not test on that day, it will be considered a refusal and considered positive, which will result in immediate program dismissal. If the student is in class outside of drug screening operating hours and demonstrates suspicious behavior, the student will be required to complete the drug test the following day at 8 am.

The student will not be permitted to drive from the campus and must arrange for transportation. Central Carolina Technical College is not responsible for transporting the student to the testing site. The School of Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Technology will pay for the cost of toxicology screenings. If the student does not test as assigned, it will be considered a refusal and considered positive, which will result in immediate program dismissal.

Students who receive positive or unsatisfactory results or who refuse to test as required will immediately be dismissed from the School of Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Technology for one year. They will also be referred to the Chief Student Services Officer to be processed through the college’s Student Code of Conduct. Unsatisfactory results, including but not limited to inconclusive, negative-dilute, cancelled, and invalid due to temperature out of range, will result in immediate dismissal from the program if the investigation determines the lab/agency was not at fault for the unsatisfactory results. If the student is not found at fault for the unsatisfactory results, the student will be required to complete another toxicology screening within the time frame provided by the program. If two (2) toxicology screenings come back unsatisfactory, a hair follicle toxicology screening may be required.

Grievances regarding the toxicology screening policy are not permitted.

The college does not accept responsibility for the student’s ineligibility for coursework, continued enrollment in the program, subsequent licensure, and/or future employment for any reason, including failure to pass the toxicology screening.
