End of Program Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the Diploma in Practical Nursing Program, the graduate will be expected to:
- Collect health care data to assist in planning care to promote patients’ optimal health across the lifespan.
- Provide safe, quality nursing care competently with patients who have acute and chronic health problems in a variety of settings.
- Prioritize evidence-based nursing care and health promotion characterized by caring, critical thinking, and sensitivity for diversity.
- Adapt communication to establish therapeutic relationships with patients and their families/significant others.
- Function as a member of the health care team to assist with the planning and delivery of care for groups of patients.
- Demonstrate professional behaviors and attitudes in the provision of care and as a member of the discipline of nursing.
- Practice nursing according to ethical, legal, and regulatory standards for the practical nurse.
End of Program Outcomes
The Diploma in Practical Nursing Program uses the following outcomes to demonstrate evidence of achievement:
- Graduates will pass the NCLEX-PN® the first time taken at a rate equal to or above the state and national pass rates.
- 50% of students entering the program will graduate from the program on time (3 semesters).
- 70% of students entering the program will graduate within one and one-half times the length of the program (4 semesters).
- 85% of graduates will be employed in nursing or in school within 9-12 months of graduation.
