Practical Nursing Admission Criteria

Admission Criteria

  • Graduate from an accredited high school or possess a General Education Development (GED) certificate.
  • Meet the general enrollment requirements of Central Carolina Technical College (CCTC) and the requirements for Health Sciences students.
  • Students must be admitted to Central Carolina Technical College prior to submitting the Nursing application. The Nursing application can be requested from academic advisors via email at asc@cctech.edu
  • Submit all official high school, college and university transcripts to Student Records no later than (2) weeks prior to the admission deadline: Student Records will review transfer credits for acceptance from post-secondary institutions accredited through an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education located at ope.ed.gov. Transcripts must be received by May 15.
  • Meet one of the following entry options:
  1. The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT): 480 EBRW (Evidenced Based Reading and Writing) and 500 Math; OR
  2. The American College Test (ACT): 19 composite with 19 in science; OR
  3. The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) with a score at the Academic Preparedness Level of “Proficient”, “Advanced” or “Exemplary”; AND completion of 16 credit hours (AHS 102 , BIO 210 , ENG 101 , MAT 155 , and PSY 201 ) are required in the PN program with a cumulative minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, no grade lower than a “C”.

 

Combining test scores (SAT, ACT, or TEAS) from different dates is not allowed. Test scores older than five (5) years are not accepted. There will be a 30 day wait period between testing. The TEAS may be taken twice in a calendar year (January 1 - December 31). Applicant may take the TEAS test no more than four (4) times.

The general education courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher. Grades from all institutions are subject to this policy.

 

Credit awarded as “E” to a student through advanced standing will not be calculated in the admission program GPA.

 

The applicant will be ranked based upon scoring of the GPA, SAT, ACT or TEAS score, completion of the Pre-Nursing Preparatory Certificate (PNPC), at least 12 credit hours of nursing pre-requisites at Central Carolina Technical College, or completion of a Bachelor’s degree, and county of residence. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), Certified Medical Assistants (CMA), Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT), Paramedics (NRP), Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), Surgical Technologists, and Pharmacy Technicians will be given extra credit on the application. In the event that two or more applicants achieve identical point counts during the admissions process, the highest-Grade Point Average (GPA) will serve as the determining factor. In the event that two or more applicants have the exact same GPA, the highest TEAS score (or SAT or ACT) will be the deciding factor.

 

Meeting the criteria does not guarantee admission to the program.
