STEP 1: Application Process
Complete an application on CCTC’s website at http://www.cctech.edu. Applications apply only to the term for which they are completed.
Next, visit the Titan Start Portal to continue your application process, to include:
- Contact information for assigned admissions counselor
- Admissions requirements and access for uploading required forms to include a state-issued identification or driver’s license
- General information about your program of study

STEP 2: Entrance Requirements
After completing an application, your assigned admission counselor will determine whether the Central Carolina Technical College placement test is required. If the test is required, the test may be taken at CCTC or another post-secondary institution. Some programs require other admission tests. Test scores and/or transcripts can be mailed, faxed, or emailed to admissions@cctech.edu. Faxed transcripts from the student will be considered unofficial. Your placement in English, mathematics, and computer technology will be based on test scores and/or transcripts as appropriate for your program.
You will be placed into general education and/or technology courses based on test scores. If you placed into developmental studies courses, it is expected that you progress through the designated sequence of courses.
Acceptable Placement Test Scores
- Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT): Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 350+, Math 440+
- American College Test (ACT): 10+ Reading subscore, 17+ Math subscore.
- General Education Development (GED) Scores: 165+ Language Arts, 165+ Mathematical Reasoning.
- High School course work and GPA
- Standard South Carolina High School Diploma within last 5 years
- 3.0 or higher SC UGP GPA (weighted GPA)
- ENG 101 Placement Requirement:
- Completion of 4 high school English courses with “C” or better
- MAT 110 Placement Requirement:
- Completion of the following 4 high school math courses with “C” or better:
- Algebra I (to include Algebra I-A/Algebra I-B or Foundations in Algebra/Intermediate Algebra), Algebra II, Geometry, and one of the following Math Course (Algebra III, Pre-Calculus, Calculus)
- IB Math Classes can replace any 3rd or 4th year Math
- MAT 120 Placement Requirement:
- Completion of the following 4 high school math courses with a “C” or better
- Algebra I (to include Algebra I-A/Algebra I-B or Foundations in Algebra/Intermediate Algebra), Algebra II, Geometry, Probability and Statistics
- CCTC Next Generation Accuplacer or Accuplacer placement test
Technology Placement Test
All prospective students take a Technology Placement Test, which is used to place students in the proper entry-level computer course and placement in online and hybrid courses.
- Exemptions to the Technology Placement Test.
- Completion of one high school computer course with a “C” or better (if reading requirement is met).
- Active Duty Military
Biology Placement Test
All students who plan to enroll in BIO 210 will be required to have successfully completed BIO 101 or BIO 112 or passed the Biology Placement Test.
The CCTC Next Generation Accuplacer placement test, Technology Placement test and Biology Placement test, may be taken during the day or evening. An appointment is recommended. Appointments can be made online using Testing Center Registration at https://www.cctech.edu/service-and-support/campus-life/testing-center/testing-center-registration/. Placement testing is available at all campus locations providing student services.
Exemptions to Placement Testing
Exemptions to taking the CCTC placement test are granted if any of the following criteria are met:
- You have attained the minimum Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT) score at the level required for the program in which you wish to enroll.
- You have earned a grade of “C” or higher for courses taken 2016-2017 academic year and later in appropriate high school-level English, mathematics, and technology courses receiving a Standard South Carolina High School Diploma within the last 5 years, and a 3.0 or higher SC UGP GPA (weighted GPA).
- You have earned a grade of “C” or higher in appropriate college-level English, mathematics, and technology courses at a regionally accredited college or university.
- You have earned the appropriate score for advanced placement in English and/or Math on CLEP, DSST, and/or AP exams that are recognized by the College.
- You have earned an associate degree or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university. (You must still meet all course requirements for the program in which you wish to enroll).
- You are not pursuing an academic award and desire to be admitted to take specific courses. You must still meet all course prerequisites.
Official Transcripts
Request an official final high school or GED transcript be sent to the CCTC Admissions Office if you wish to be considered for financial aid or if you are in a program in the Early Childhood program. If you have been home schooled, you must request a final transcript from the home school association or meet the requirements for the state in which the homeschool is located.
If applicable, request official college transcripts to be sent to the Student Records Office. Official transcripts may be delivered by mail, electronically, or in person. If delivered in person the transcript must be in a sealed envelope. If delivered electronically, transcripts must come directly from the academic institution.
STEP 3: Advisement, Registration, and Orientation
Admission decisions will be made available in the Titan Start Portal. Decision letters will be available for download.
Check the Titan Start Portal for the username to access myCCTC and CCTCgo, the College’s mobile application, to:
- Register for first semester classes based on advising from the assigned admission counselor
- Review financial aid requirements
Continue to visit the Titan Start Portal to access important information:
- Welcome and Decision Letters
- New Student Orientation event registration
- Status of official transcripts
STEP 4: Financial Aid and Payment Information
Apply for financial aid online at www.fafsa.gov. Visit the Titan Start Portal to learn more about types of available financial aid, scholarships, and payment plans. If you have questions regarding your FAFSA, you may contact Financial Aid at (803)778-7831 or finaid@cctech.edu. Students who may be eligible for Veterans’ Affairs benefits may contact CCTC’s Veterans’ Resource Center at (803)778-7845. Should you need to make a tuition payment, you may pay in person at the cashier (located at Main Campus or Outreach Campuses), online (through myCCTC), by mailing a check to the cashier, or by phone using a credit card.
To receive financial aid, high school transcripts must be provided from a public, private, home school or GED program in accordance with the South Carolina Law on Education, Title 59, Chapter 65.
STEP 5: Book Purchase
Purchase your books on Main Campus in the Central Carolina Bookstore located in Building M100 in the Student Center or Building K1100 at the Kershaw County Campus. Books are also available at the other outreach locations for courses taught at those locations. Textbook requirements are posted online at: http://bookstore.cctech.edu and books may be purchased online as well. Book prices can also be found on myCCTC on the Financial Services Page, under Bookstore Price Search.
STEP 6: Student ID and Parking
If you need to visit the College’s campus to access services such as the library, testing center, computer labs, etc., you will need a College ID. You will also need to register your vehicle. The Security Office is located in Building M100/Room M117. Security Office hours change from semester to semester and are posted outside the Security Office. A College ID and parking decal can also be obtained at the Kershaw County and F.E. Dubose Campuses. Parking decals and ID validations for the semester may be obtained at the Lee County Site.
STEP 7: Classes Begin
Once you have completed the application, admission, and registration process, it is time to attend classes! If you encounter any technical problems with your online course or myCCTC account, contact User Support Services at 803-778-6607. If you encounter problems with your course material, contact your instructor or academic advisor. If you are not sure who your academic advisor is, please check myCCTC on the Advisement and Registration page or on Degreeworks.
STEP 8: Graduation
Apply to graduate online (in your myCCTC account). Students who meet graduation requirements should apply to graduate at the beginning of their final semester.
